Ken creates a dramatic portrait in egg tempera of Alex Baumann,
Canada's double gold medalist swimmer at the '84 Los Angeles
Olympics.
Ken contributes considerable on-going time as a member of
various boards - including six years with the Canada Council
for the Arts, in Ottawa.

For the first time since the early '60s, Ken decides to return
to working in oil as well as his regularly used media. Oil enables
him to work on a much larger scale - a desire resulting from
his recent travels - especially his ocean experiences.

The threat of an environmental disaster prompts the artist
to lead a two year campaign against a proposed landfill site
to be located just one mile upriver from his studio. Ultimately,
in 1996, geological test results support the campaign group's
arguments and the battle is won - but not without having imposed
a considerable cost to Ken's creative time.
